This used to be a show of force indeed. Only one of the many steps which has been taken against illegal fishing. And there are 10.000 foreign vessels LESS in Indonesian water now, according to the Ministry of Fishery. Great job, Ibu Susi.Very showy. Not sure how effective. For those companies owning them, maybe it's just another cost to depreciate? Probably there is some manager a-hole sitting in an office somewhere with a spreadshseet calculating the average number of trips they can do before getting caught, the profits for each trip and the cost of the boat vs. the cost of bribes.
Sorry for my cynicism.
