I've been out of the loop for a little while. Looking to get a little steel HP80 for the girlfriend, or for messing around on some shallow shore dives.

Found one locally. Born 8/06 with current hydro/VIP. Waiting for more details. It's an XS Scuba/Worthington. VIP was done by a reputable dive shop.

He's asking $200. Sound fair or is it negotiable? Seems some HP100's are going for around that price.

As long as everything is current and the valve looks good I'd say it sounds like a good deal at roughly 38% off the price of a new tank. I'm sure you checked but they are running around $325.00 plus tax new right now.

I'm not a tank expert but I am looking to get a few. I'd buy it at that price as long as it is current on hydro/VIP.

Just for fun tell him you'll give him a little less and see if you can get it a few dollars cheaper.

Good luck and let us know if you get it.

Thanks for the quick response! I already went ahead and offered $185. If he doesn't agree I'll likely go ahead and grab it for $200.

I did see they were going for $325 new. Paid $350 new for my HP100's also back in 2008.

Here's a couple pics. I'm only interested in the Worthington. He told me it was born 8/06 and has a current hydro. Sticker confirms VIP.

Apparently has someone interested on all 3 tanks so I'll probably just go ahead and grab it for $200 if I can get it.

I would say $150 for HP80 in current viz and hydro. In fact, I will probably not buy one at all. It is way to short for my preference. Have you used one or even mount one onto your BC?

This is mainly for the girlfriend, which is 5'5" maybe 105lbs.

If I use it, it will be for the 15-20ft bridge dive locally. I have not used one myself but have always liked the idea for short/shallow dives.

Already making arrangements to grab it for $200. $325 new + new hydro and VIP is starting to sound pretty reasonable to me. Only a couple years older than my HP100s.

I think it will be perfect for her

Looks good to me. It does look small next to other tanks. I've dove with an hp80 and it wasn't bad. There is a difference but not a problem for me anyway.

Good luck!

Yeah I've seen some sitting on the floor at the local shop and thought they were really cool! Been wanting one for the shallow bridge dives down here, and now that the girlfriend is moving here in a couple weeks, I have more of any excuse to grab one! She's tiny so my HP100's are a little big/heavy for her to manage.

Make sure you're comparing similar tank sizes when checking prices. Quite a jump in
price when moving from a HP80 to a HP100.

Brand new Faber HP 80's are going for $254 with free shipping at Leisure Pro
Blue Steel Faber High Pressure Steel Tank

I wouldn't pay $200 for used ones, if new are only $50 more. $185 maybe, but not $200

I'm kind of partial to the Worthingtons, with the galvanization that's good for life. And as shown above those are $325 new. The Fabers are slightly bigger/heavier too.

Just found out it's not O2 clean though. Divers Direct does all banked blends I guess, but the place i normally fill at does partial pressure.

Probably not a big deal since I won't be diving very deep with an 80. The GF isn't currently Nitrox certified but I might want it in the future.

I figure it can be up to $60 for an O2 cleaning. $180 helps offset that a little bit so I think I'd be happy with that if he's willing. Just don't want to drop $200 and find out I need to clean it for another ~$45

Well looks like a no-go for $180. Gonna keep my eyes open and see what else I come across.
