When I looked at the halcyon light STA in my LDS the tank was being pressed against the plate bolts and the sharp outer edge of the bracket. It doesn't seem as secure this way and looks like it would damage my painted tank.

The light weight Oxycheq/Koplin STA looks like it is shaped to the curve of the tank. Does it form to the tank without the plate bolts digging and is the outer edge curved away from the tank?

In short is it less likely to scratch up my tank while still being secure or are there other brackets I chould consider.

Buy the Koplin STA. It is awesome, and its not goin to kill the lovely paint on your aluminum cylinder. It might nick it, but any STA might damage a painted cylinder...

I am very happy with mine...

Several STA systems are out there. Mine has a flush bolt, so there is nothing raised to hit the tank.

PM me with your e-mail address for details.

STAs will scratch up your tank. STAs are steel, tanks are hard and heavy. Scratching will occur.

BUT, if you use some duct-tape or tool dip on your STA - viola! no more scratching. Works for any STA.

I have heard about tool dip before, possibly from reading an older post of yours. I have very durable paint (Pacific Endura two part epoxy) and it doesn't scuff easily but the sharp outer edges of the STA or the plate bolts would be a problem.

I like the tool dip idea but if I can keep the plate bolts and sharp edges of the STA away from my tanks they should be OK and I expect that tool dipping might add a half inch of thickness to my STA pushing the tank farther out from my back. Is tool dip about a quarter inch thick?

Hi,

I designed the STA to *just* clear the tank away from the bolts, and to have a couple "pads", rather than two sharp rails, where the straps go through at contacts the tank, but if your tank has art work on it, you might want to use some fabric or plastic with adhesive on one side, and attach these to the "pads" then trim it with an exacto knife.

Leon Scamahorn uses my STA's on his Megalodon rebreather and does exactly this.
