It's all about your personal expectations and values. Personally, I place little to no value on mfgr warranty on most items. Others would seemingly pay double to get it. Other than reg service parts, I can't recall ever using one.

You can usually get the lowest price at LP but you usually don't get the mfgr warranty or handholding advice. Usually. Some here say their LDS will match or approach the LP price. If that's true of your LDS, great. It's not true of any LDS in my area and the only shop I've been in that does that is Scubatoys, which is 4 hours from me but I get there a few times per year. Even so, as much as I like Scubatoys, it sometimes is a hassle to have to call up in business hours and get a price match as opposed to just clicking Add to Cart at 2AM or whenever, and being done with it. It would be nice if ST had a place where you could enter a competitor price and URL, place the order, and if they can match then process the order, if not then get back to see if you want to order anyway or not.

Bad mouthing the competition is bad business in any situation. I wish people would learn that!

It's funny that you say that, because LP does that! They even give 5% off the price you give them, from ANY site (I'm guessing the word ANY includes BUY NOW on ebay)

Perhaps this was an isolated incident, and it was about 15 years ago.

If then, they must learn a big lesson.

I hope I can get any fake one from LP. It helps to shorten my retirement plan.:D

I only need a good laywer... :rofl3:

Man, you and DandyDon need to get some sleep. You might want to try warm milk or cold vodka so you don't have to tickle the keyboard in the wee hours.

To all ScubaBoard Bloggers,

I had a very interesting conversation with my LDS this evening in SLC Utah about Leisure Pro..... He said "LP makes fake stuff" ....

Oh yes, online dealers like LP routinely make and sell counterfeit dive gear. Look closely at their "Scupapro" regulators and "suumto" computers. Maybe the LDS forgot to mention that you can easily catch diseases from using this equipment as well.:shakehead

BTW, a little hijack...you an NBA fan?

Actually while not experiencing it myself, some women actually like competition.

And participation! :D

I have bought from LP, and was properly satisfied when I had an issue with a mask. However, given the type of service, help, and input I get from ScubaToys, I'd rather do business with them.

LP is legitimate, and fair, from what I've seen (however, they do use their own product warranties for "unathorized equipment sales"). However, those sales don't go on without the knowledge of the maufacturers. If there is a product I can't get from ST, I"ll use LP, such as a recent Carter SMB, (or I"ll use my local LDS). Otherwise, I see value in what a shop like ScubaToys brings to the table (divers selling to divers, at great prices).

To all ScubaBoard Bloggers,
Pro, and I must say, I was not expecting the reaction I received. To say the least, it was very negative toward LP. During all his ranting and raving, he said one thing that caught my attention and I wanted to glean from the infinite knowledge that can be

The profits from your purchase is going to buy him toys and pay his bills. He can't compete with the large volume internet shops, so he will revert to bashing them.

From what I've read, some of it may be true regarding the Grey Market issue. This could come into problem if an item is still under warranty, and the company that made the item sucks.

The popular internet site newegg that sells computer parts, the local *distributors* in my area that sell to other businesses (not the public) can't touch the prices of newegg. It's all about volume.

I guess a real question here is, why would a LDS NOT meet a online retailers cost if it would get them the business?

Match LP, make $10, don't match LP, make $0. Honestly, the $10 profit makes more sense to me :)

I am a a believe in supporting your local shop.
Many manufacturers put limits on how much in discounts an authorized dealer can offer. Leisurepro is not an authorized Scubapro dealer for example, and that is why they can discount the product so much. The downside here is Scubapro will not support equipment purchased through anyone but an authorized dealer. Aside from the loss of the manufacture's lifetime warranty on regs and computer, you would also loose the free parts for life and free batteries. This adds up substanialy.
You should be able still to talk to your LDS.
One of my friends just purchased a $2000.00 Scubapro package from one of our authorized dealers for his son. It was discounted to $1800.00, the max Scubapro will permit. The same package on LP (I just priced it) would be $1500.00. But no Scubapro warranty and no parts for life.
But...... in addition to the 10% discount, the authorized dealer gave them $370.00 in their own "incentives".
