... It was a fatal error for a man trying to follow his dream. ...
IMHO, his "dream" was little more than trying to distinguish himself in the tech community.

Very much like the Rouses. That is a hard row to hoe.

Actually it's "If you heard from a dive shop, it's wrong".
Really?

Not all dive shops are mercenaries. (This is where you say: "Really"?)

Have we seen ANY of the data relating to the planning and execution of this dive... which we were told would be released?

They are likely still trying to figure the best way to post the roulette wheel......

Release of data may be significant to us but I can't see why it would be to those close to the case. In reality I question the value to us anyway. There is no question that this was a flawed plan for a dive that was of no value and too dangerous to undertake. The specifics of those flaws IMHO won't add any new lessons beyond what we already know.

Adequate training, self assessment, research and listening to the experts without letting ego and pride over rule plain common sense would have prevented this dive and therefor this death!

The first rule of Scuba Diving applies here my friend: Don't hold your breath! :D

I always tell my students that that is the book answer but the real first rule of diving is "Don't Die!" Doc Deep should have taken my advice.

BTW, #2 is "Have fun". #7 is "Never hold your breath" and even then I throw in lots of caveats with that.

... financially significant...

I can see two sides of that too.... neither of which make a case for posting information for free on SB

BTW, #2 is "Have fun".
My number two is "The Rule of Fun: You can call a dive at any time, for any reason with no questions asked and no repercussions." He should have followed this rule too. In this case, hind sight is simply dead.

I can see two sides of that too.... neither of which make a case for posting information for free on SB

because it likely can make someone money selling it (w/ story attached) somewhere else..... it has no value if it gets posted free first on a site like here...

IMHO,

Really?

Not all dive shops are mercenaries. (This is where you say: "Really"?)

Of course they are mercenary. They are a business. For that matter every instructor is a mercenary that is paid whether independent or working for a LDS. Nothing wrong with being a mercenary. A mercenary can give you good or bad advice. Joe Bob can give you lots of free advice, some good, some bad. Many posters on SB also run a business. Does not mean that their advice is not good. Does not mean their advice is right for you. It is like every thing else in life. You get input from several independent sources. You look at your own needs and resources and beliefs. You make a decision. You are ready to change your decision if new data shows up.
