the question is, is "to dive" a regular or an irregular verb?

if it's a regular verb, then you have to add "ed" to form the past
tense or the past participle

if it's an irregular verb, it does whatever you want it to do

however correct or incorrect, in the US the usage of "dove"
is becoming more and more common... so... i would
say either one is fine

Dove is something you shoot at with a 12 gauge shotgun !!! :m16:

I know other people who confuse them, but then I don't understand how they are so easily confused, they seem so different to me.

I know the difference between the two but when writing things down fast it's whatever comes to my head first. I was found guilty of misspelling then/than, affect/effect, its/its, you're on more than one occasion. Oh, and spellcheckers make things worse. They will take “qffect” and convert it to whatever they like, no matter the context. Why are there no intelligent spellcheckers that can understand context?

Chebby:
DenisW, how do you know i didn't mean you and Walter were "brothers"? ;)

Anyway, I apologize if that was offensive to you. I guess I have a different sense of humour than you indeed.

Sometimes I wish people would stop being so serious all the time...

I wasn't offended, if I had been, you would have received a PM. Now I never thought of "brothers". Good come back.

You may not have a very different sense of humour. There are some few things I see as funny that others may not. I sometimes get a real laugh at some of the very serious posts and threads. Some people are way too serious.

Dived. Without a doubt.

My favorite corruption is "diven." I hear that one all the time and it never fails to crack me up. Once in a great while, I even hear "doved."

The all time best: We were going on a tour (ages ago) of Catalina - and we were going past Hamilton Cove. Long story shortened: The tour guide announced that Hamilton Cove had some "issues" and people that bought property had "really gotten tooken..."

Diven rules.
