Until you own your own tanks, you may not dive as much locally due to the added expense of renting tanks. Once you own them, fills are relatively cheap.

If a steel tank is given the proper care. IE never letting water in or overfilled many times!
It will last a lifetime for a diver!
I have seen divers using steel tanks from the 50s!!!!

A person who calls himself a diver and does not own a tank should be burned at the stake lol :flame:

I was thinking of buying tanks because as a previous poster said I would like to be able to get up and dive whenever I wanted instead of having to go rent tanks etc... But my question is do you store your tanks full, and if so how long can they sit before the air goes bad? Or is this even a factor?

Thanks
Dan

I've got two AL80s. With my son diving now, I'm looking for some more.
What the others before have said about hydro and VIS is correct.
I still rent/borrow my doubles and deco tanks. ....

At most of the LDSs I've checked with here, the rental of an AL80 is only $1 more than the fill of an AL80.
