..and heres the agency brainwashing and misunderstandings coming through again. Octopus is a safety device, fin straps are potential dive savers. Snorkels are useless tubes and in no way are redundancy for any of the rest of your dive kit.

That sure looks like a RED tipped snorkle in your picture.

I have mine attached, but not permanently; it depends on the type of dive.

And the pocket snorkels DO work very well--my dad has one now and swears by it.

I can assure you its not.

My snorkel was roughly 180 miles from where that photo was taken lurking in my pool gear bag for when we play octopush.

The bigger version of the avatar is here:

Its an orange strobe on the BC inflator hose and an orange storm whistle below it.

Of the 12 of us on the boat that day, not one of us had a snorkel even in the cars ashore :)

Im quite proud to say i have never worn a snorkel in the sea at the same time as my diving gear.

Okay, I looked at the big picture... You sure that's not a folding red tipped snorkle disquised as a strobe? Just kidding.

Looks like a red strobe and red whistle from here, mate.....

I might expect that from someone from Mt. Pleasent. Being that I'm from ElDorado I would know.

Fair enough. I can't claim the same, although I certainly don't dive with one now.
However, you might want to sort out the Suunto dredge issue. ;)

String, the DIR guys would have a field day with your setup. ;)

Of course they would :)

A phrase they'd hate though.....It works for me :)

Im actually not carrying much, other than the mandatory reel/dsmb and D8 torch the only optional bit of kit is a camera clipped to a spare d-ring. Nothing else dangling off the BC so apart from the camera nothing that can be left behind. The only semi-working pocket on BC is already full, the reel/dsmb combo wont fit into a pocket and neither will the torch so no real options to tidy that up anyway.

i try not to be a DIR nazi, but i gotta admit the dangly console does make me grind my teeth a little bit...

have you thought about taking some of the whistles and strobes and SMBs and using some #24 nylon line and boltsnaps to secure them into bellows pockets on your drysuit legs? the big bellows pockets that www.fifthd.com sells (and there's probably other similar ones out there) can be used to store a *ton* of stuff.... (and honestly i'm just trying to be helpful here).
