Question Do we have viable alternatives to Shearwater?

Garmin mk3i is respectable.

It’s not *as good* as shearwater, but it holds its own. As a fitness watch, they’re unmatched. I wouldn’t hesitate to use my garmin as my primary, but shearwater readability, interface, etc is just superior.

Having had various dive computers in the past, the Perdix was a revelation to use as it is accurate, simple to use -- probably the best user interface available -- has been exceedingly reliable over the past 8 years, works in exactly the same way as the Petrel and Nerd on my rebreather and there's the reasonable Shearwater Cloud application (that could do with more work).

I am personally so wedded to Shearwater that I wouldn't consider another rebreather which didn't use Shearwater computers -- that includes the unproven Symbiosis on the Halcyon rebreather.

The one problem I had with the Nerd (pressure sensor failure) was fixed within a week including shipping there and back. Shearwater support is good, nay great.

My Perdix did well on OC and is used on most of my CCR dives and all OC dives. Switching between OC and CCR modes is easy.

Most importantly, in my many hundreds of decompression dives with over 1h deco, I've learned to trust Shearwater computers for their decompression calculations. I intend to remain unbent for the rest of my diving career.

There is a Anesthesiologist here in Brazil who made a Meg head with AV1 e-ccr controller, and is doing regular sub 120 metres with it, also a great guy.

Never locks(looking at you Suunto).

Set the Suunto Eon to the Buhlman algorithm and it will not lock out. This feature is over 4 years old.

And do you really plan to miss over 4 minutes of Deco and then go on another dive?

I'm always curious about this. What would be the correct behaviour for a computer when the parameters of the model have been exceeded and it knows full well its calculated ascent profile is no longer even an approximation of a "good" one?
