Well, I dive a Fusion with X-shorts for pockets. Sometimes I don't bother with the shorts. I have never noticed any difference in efficiency, swimming speed or SAC rate between the dives with and without pockets.

My SAC rate is approximately 20% higher in a dry suit, BP/W and large doubles than in a wet suit, jacket style BCD and single tank. I doubt pockets cause as much as a tenth of that increase. Anyway, having pockets is definitely more streamlined than hanging the contents off D-rings.

I've dove a bunch of different suits in my time so ........

+1 for pockets on the side and I feel that Velcro pockets lay flatter, less drag.

Secondly, I have noticed that Trilam suits like a TLS350 or FLX Extreme w/TD Overlay, when sized properly have noticeably less drag than Cordura trilam suits!

Downside to Neoprene drysuits is weight, time to dry and sometime flexibility.

Overall, Pockets are an advantage, don't worry about Drag!
