hi everyone, im lookin 2 work in sipadan as dm,
You....and 10,000 other DMs
The best way to secure work is through a word-of-mouth recommendation from a pro that already works in that location. It's all about networking.
The next best way to secure work is to visit, in person, and dive with a dive operation. This gives you the chance to establish rapport and impress them with your professionalism. Persist like a bad smell, until the day comes when they are desperate for an extra member of staff. If they know you and like you, then you could be the one they ask to cover. Once your foot is in the door...
The least successful way to secure work is by emailing your CV. Most dive centres (especially in highly sought after locations like Sipidan/Mabul) recieve dozens of CVs each day. Your CV has to be excellent and really sell you as an experienced, competant and highly professional DM...along with listing a variety of supplementary skills that will make you more attractive to the employer (compressor technician, regulator technician, website design etc etc).
If you have any lucrative non-diving skills, you can often get more free diving by offering those for free, than actually doing DM work. When I managed dive centres before, I have established partnerships with certain people who possesed attractive skills (SEO optimization, marketing...even property construction and design).
It's a highly competitive market for places like Sipidan. Offering your services for free won't be a novelty for the dive operations there.
