I am considering buying an DJI Action 5 and am torn on whether the diving bundle is worth it. Does anyone have experience with the floating handle? It's apparently filled with air and beyond snorkeling, I am not sure it makes much sense to have something that could float away and impact bouyancy. If someone has experience with it then please let me know.

Considering getting the adventure bundle instead with the extension rod, which seems like potentially a better choice. It also has spare batteries and then I can get the waterproof case separately. The Action 5 already waterproof to 20m, so I will only need the case once I get my AOW and dive deeper.

Little things like cameras won’t affect your overall buoyancy enough to matter. Slightly heavy is easier to handle, slightly light is more likely to recover if you loose it. Carrying a camera is a significant task load, they usually make the whole dive be about running the camera. If you’re really new maybe hold off on that.

No experience with that floating handle, but....I have a generic handle for my GoPro that can be flooded (or partially flooded) by unscrewing the end cap and dumping some air. For snorkeling, you want your rig to float, because if you drop it you won't be able to get it back if you're in more than 10 feet of water. For diving, you want your rig to be neutral or slightly negative, so if you drop it, it doesn't shoot to the surface from however deep you are. That DJI floating handle is only good for snorkeling, in my opinion.

Good point. I might hold off using it straight away. What do you think about this backpack strap mount for the Action 5? It's intended for hiking but I thought it could attach to the BCD and have it hands free starting out. The shots won't be amazing, but $19 isn't very steep to try it out.

DJI has a big sale on until 30 March, so that is driving an impulse buy. I think it's the first sale the Action 5 has had seeing it only came out in September.

Honestly...your videos with the backpack strap mount will be useless - the camera will never be pointed at the right thing. And the jerky motion will make your viewers seasick. The camera needs to be in your hand(s).
