Anyone using GoPro13 or DJI Osmo 5? I need a new action camera and the DJI seems pretty good. Wondering if anyone has had experience diving with this camera or had comparison thoughts.

I've had the previous 6 or so generations of GoPro's, but skipped the 13 because it seemed like such a miniscule improvement. Got a DJI 5 to see if it was worth switching over, and have been very pleased with it. I'm not a videophile, but I think the differences in image quality are negligible, even according to most professionals. Plus the DJI has some distinct advantages - the battery life is waay better, the camera is a little smaller, it has waay better low light images, it is waterproof to 66 ft (twice the GoPro), it includes a depth/elevation sensor, and you can easily overlay data from the camera or a sports watch .fit file onto videos (such as depth/elevation from the DJI, or heart rate/depth/pace/etc from a Garmin watch. See example below).

Can it use this for automatic white balance/colour correction, like the Paralenz dive camera did? That would be the gamechanger for moving away from GoPro.

The DJI action cameras (4 & 5) have a white balance sensor in the front of the camera for doing automatic colour correction.

That works for UW specific use? So underwater footage from DJI is automatically colour corrected, regardless of blue or green water and depth?

I really haven't messed with the settings at all, but check out my videos with the DJI Action 5. I couldn't be more happy with this camera. Battery lasts forever too.

Looks better than un-corrected GoPro for sure, but still seems to be lacking in colours and colour vibrancy that UW specific colour correction would add (back) -- with the huge disclaimer that I haven't dived this site and maybe the colours are just as you saw them.

Been a few since I followed UW video closely but if DJI really has implemented automatic underwater colour correction that is huge. Only the speciality Paralenz UW camera has come close to that before.

I think there really is an UW correction mode thats automatic, I just haven't used it. Id suggest looking at all 3 videos on my channel for more diversity of sites.

To our eyes, the auto white balance works fine on both our OA5P's, but we've noticed that if we use our LED flashlights, the white balance will be thrown off a bit, but WB will correct itself after 10-20 seconds though. WB can also change slightly when light conditions change, which probably is to be expected. We've only used the Mimo app for simple editing.

As @spatty99 mentioned, the battery life is awesome, we easily get two hours of use in 2-4C water temps. We have two extra batteries each, never touched them yet. You also have 47GB of internal storage. We've also used them without a housing down to 18m, though you can't operate the buttons at depths below 10m or so.

There are of course better cameras for underwater use out there, but for the price and what it is capable of, it's hard to beat right now.

(before you laugh yourselves silly over our video, keep in mind we are total novices at everything underwater, so expect poor technique, trim ++)
