a lot of questions are posted on o-ring sizes.

Using bulk o-ring material and a sharp single edged razor blade to cut butt ends on a measured ,fitted piece and superglue to connect the butt edges produces a fine , non-leaking o-ring custom sized to your project. it is remarkably easy to do successfully.

I wrapped the o-ring material around my groove and at the overlap made a crease in the o-ring material with fingernail to mark the spot where the cut needed to be made.

McMaster-Carr has a good assortment of O-rings that you can buy in most sizes and materials. I have used them on many projects and they are not that expensive.

Question about the superglue - are you talking about cyanoacrelate glue (krazy glue)? That glue is rather stiff, and I'd be worried about it causing the seal to break at deeper depths (i.e. when the rest of the o-ring would be forced a long way into the groove).

I guess what I'm asking is how deep have you taken such seals, and did you notice any leaking?

Thanx

Krazy glue works,
We use the Loctite 495 general purpose superbond. O-rings hold up no problem, even in oils. Ensure you have nice straight cut both sides. We use a VEE block to assemble to ensure a straight fit

My repaired video lights work! I took the housing down to 143fsw with no problems. The 1/2" acrylic ports worked fine, and the modified mag lights spots did not leak. Now if I can just get those six gill sharks to show themselves....

to warthaug.

The rubber guys where I bought my oring material told me to use superglue. They had a bottle that they use and I bought one. It was just like regular cyanoacrylate glue and I have no leakage and have been to 105 ft. MK

I have begun assembling my housing and came across this question:
How do you get a flat surface on the PVC pipe to mount the latches? Or do you just mount the latch to the round pipe and leave a small gap where it doesn't meet?

I solved that problem by taking small pieces of PVC which I flattened (by heating) & cut to fit the latches. I then placed a piece of sandpaper on the housing, and sanded these flat pieces until they had a curved side which matched the curvature of the housing. A bit of sanding with finerpaper, followed by PVC glue, and they were attached. Gave a nice flat surface for the latches, plus gave a little bit extra plastic for the screws to grab onto.
