Hey Paul,

Both Scott's (Padipro) and my designs work just fine (as well as others here of course). I think what you're talking about is something like this, which is what my version 2 housing is using:

Scott's design of capturing the O-ring in a U-shaped gland is one way, but I think the outer wall of that gland is somewhat unnecessary. It's the inner wall that stops the water pressure from pushing the O-ring into the housing. FYI, this is the same concept utilized in my V1 housing only it used two outer rings with the Oring in between. Either way, the exterior of the O-ring is exposed. Maybe this is help:

You'll also see that a lot of designs that have the acrylic sitting directly on the O-ring will be machined into a tophat shape so that part of it actually inserts into the housing. I found that if you use at least 3 latches equally spaced, it is not necessary to do.

By the way, while I succeeded in heat forming the outer rings, I decided to ditch them in favor of 4" PVC couplings. I didn't like how tight they fit onto the pipe and there's really no easy way of slipping them into position with the cement setting on you. I only require 3 couplings for two housings for a a couple dollars. Much easier than the heat forming.

Bobby

PS: The V1 housing just did another 6 dives in Cozumel this past week for a total of 12. No leaks at all to a max of 97 feet.

I refuse to let this thread die ;-)

First, for those who are still in the planning/buying stages for a new housing or light cannister project, I wanted to forward a discount code I just received from SuperiorSeals.com. Save 6% on any O-ring order by using the code "orings345".

After I got back from Coz, I felt engergized to do some more work on my v2 housing.

I'm considering putting together an extremely detailed tutorial on building my design to help those who want to duplicate. Do you think it would be worth the effort?

Bobby,
Yes! Please. Ive been checking this board every day for your updates. I was waiting with baited breath while you were down in Mexico for your return and updates to your v.2 housing. Please do not let this thread die. You do awesome work. Looks great. Would be willing to pay for a detailed guide on your v2 housing.

Absolutely, this is all very inspiring

Hi ther.
This is my DIY hous.
regards

Morten,

Very nice work as well, especially the light. What type of battery do you have it hooked up to? I see in the pictures that there is a cord from the light head but can not see any battery canister.

Light? What light? Evidently I'm not getting the pictures others are. I'm REALLY interested in making a light for my DIY housing rig in order to get more "truthful" color. Please post any photos you have and any info on what kind of elements are involved.
Much obliged!

Guba,
Padi's refering to Morten's website at http://morten.dyrstad.no/uvhus.htm

He puts a light attachment into the hole in the top of the handle. It looks to me like he might be using a canister battery pack with a light head that is adaptable between handheld or camera mounted usage depending on whether he is diving with or without the camera.

I was debating whether or not to hurry up and build a mount to put my UK light cannon on my housing prior to going to Cozumel last week. I ultimately decided that it will be light enough but regretted not doing it. This is certainly a learning process and I'll probably never dive my housing without some kind of lighting in the future.
