I think it is just nailed.

About split fins.... not itself, but same way... just add some osnaburg and white iron

All new is well forgotten old...

I've done boots with two wooden toes with clothe webbing between them. Worked fine.

Also, another summer, used board bolted to boots, but the boot fell to pieces quickly. If I did it again, all leather and a second plate as an insole.

I am curious about it. Is it Bulenkov? Maybe I can find a second hand copy on the ebay, I like to watch the pictures even if don't understand the text

I know... it doesn't make sense, both in terms of price and of quality
And considering the price of good second hand fins it makes even less sense...

Still, just for my curiosity I would like to know if someone tried to make DIY fins and with which materials

Suggested materials...

1. sole and foot pocket of rubber boots...
2. rubber mud flaps...the heavy truck type...
3. short flat head screws...nuts...lock washers...
4. S/S bungee straps...with mounting hardware...

tools...power jig saw/blades...electric drill/bits...pencil/paper to make fin pattern...srew driver(s)...a few wrenches...

Show us some photos...just don't quit your day job...

Sorry, I do not know, where it was published. I found it here пример самодельных ласт.: Клуб любителей экзотического дайвинга: Подводный форум больных дайвингом.
I think it was in the "Journal for young Boyscouts" (like Юнный Техник or Моделист-конструктор), but I`m not shure....
it was not a book, dedicated to scuba diving .. it was something more simple

Very interesting links. The old magazines seem to describe a very variety of topics of scuba diving, including exercises to improve kicking skills both in and out of the water
I like also the design of the fins in the last link you posted, very nice
