You can use a round long splice through the center of the spool as a handle. This will make it easier to use with gloves and give you a way to attach the spool as you reel it in.

I don't really see the point. That will be really inconvenient as it stops you taking a full turn around the spool for quick winding as well as being a hazard when deploying an SMB and line is running out fast.

I never had any problem with the traditional method of sticking one index finger through the center hole (5 finger gloves) and using a double ender in the other hand as a winder knob.

In the case of using 2 or 3 fingered mitts, just keep another double ender clipped to you that can be held in a gloved hand and stuck through the center of the spool to act as an axle while the other hand winds.
 
Now it's not a finger spool.
