I wouldn't have had enough wood i don't think, except for the uprights and the dowel its all scrap wood.
 
Like I posted: if it's sturdy enough for you now, stop playing with it. If it's not, then a 2x4x96 is usually less than $5.00.

Good job! Next time I answer a structure question, I'll spend the five or so minutes on CAD to accurately display my ideas. :D Heck, I need the practice anyway.
