A friend dove with us (repetive dives daily) for a week on an island in leser Antillies. Max depth 100 ft. A week later he was outgassing (belching, flatulance). The second week turned much worse and he is now hospitalized (over a week) with microperforations in his bowel and no medical prognosis yet.

His diverticulosis had been treated and was believed to be under control for over a year before the trip. He has asked if gas in the polups may have erupted due to a lack of means to clear any trapped gas. We observed a 24 hour no dive to fly delay.

Should diving with a history of diverticulosis be contraindicated for the above reasons or some other reason? I do not have a medical background only an interest of what to consider when diving. I am not even sure how diverticulosis manifests itself or if my spelling is correct.
Thanks
