I will be vacationing at Sunriver from 8/3 to 8/9 and was hoping to get a dive in somewhere. I hear Waldo Lake is great but I am having trouble getting any diving info. Can anyone give me some tips on where to dive there, water temps, special precautions etc. I would greatly appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks Dive Girl,
It looks like I have my dive site at Walt's Wall. Do you have any ideas on what the water temp this time of year. I usually dive L.A. area with a 3mil vest under a 7mil full. That works pretty well as long as the water is above 60 degrees.

I just dove Waldo from Shadow Bay last Saturday. The surface water temp was around 60-65 degrees. At depth it was more like 48. Make sure to bring insect repellent. The mosquitoes ate us alive during the few minutes we assembled our gear and threw on our dry suits!

The lake is also at about 5800 feet so plan accordingly.

WOW, 48 degrees is cold. I wish I signed up for that dry suit class. Tonight I am going to see if I can get my 7 mil suit over my 3 mil suit over my 3 mil hooded vest. I have an extra hood too. Maybe I'll throw that on just for giggles. I wonder if I will be able to move with all of that neoprene on.
Thank for the info guys. Your all great. If this works out I just might have to dive Crater lake as well.
p.s. thanks for that mosquito tip...little blood suckers

Walt at the shop (Central Or Diving) is doing a Crater Lake dive but not until the 17th of Aug. He's done both dive areas a lot and would have great information for you. You could maybe add some kind of 7mm rental wetsuit gear to complete that layered look? Have some great dives. // ww

I saw the crater lake dive on his web site and was bummed that it is the week after I will be in the neighborhood. I like your idea about dropping by his shop. There's nothing like getting the inside scoop from the people who are in the know.

Well, if you stay in the top 10-15 feet of the water column, it'll be about 65 degrees...

Are you diving a straight 7mm or a farm john 7mm with the accompanying pants and coat?
