Anybody up for diving this weekend at the Blue Hole? (January 19 or 20)

You are a brave soul! With temps still in the single digits at night (here anyway), I'm still not over our last outing!

Have fun! I will likely try and see who is interested from our area in Feb....

I'll be out on Sunday. There are another couple of divers from a past class that are coming out as well. I'm definitely bringing the tarps and the hot chocolate......

This is tempting. I missed the big trip the end of Dec due to a cold. I sure would like to check out my new (replacement) computer and my new camera before going to Bonaire the end of Feb.

And, this is a 3-day weekend for me. What does the WX look like, for someone who is still diving wet?

I'm not concerned about IN the water, but when we get out, you guys only have to worry about your heads being wet during the SI, while I'll be all wet (hummm, seems I may have been told that before :11: ).

You won't be the only one! There will be a father and his son who were in my OW class a last October that are coming as well. The forecast calls for lower 50's with windy conditions. With the tarps and a propane heater it's not bad for a couple of dives.

Your welcome to join us!!

Thanks Kevin!

Anyone else up here in Colorado interested in a ride/room share?

Not this time around for me. I'll be looking to likely share a ride down the third weekend in Feb. I just have too much going on right now, and it's becoming a real job to keep the driveway clear with all this damn snow we get in small doses. :shakehead:

In a word, diving wet this time of year will be COLD! My hands were freezing (literally) after each dive we did in December. By the time I got to the picnic tables, I could not feel them, and it made removing the gear difficult. The heater saved us, as that is where we all immediately went after removing the BP/W's. I need to get some dry gloves! :D Our feet were also cold, but manageable. Wet, it would have been a different story.

If you do find someone to go down with, I'm not sure what to recommend in the way of shelter on Saturday. Kevin's system works really well, but he is not just using tarps, he has really thick material from billboards, clamps to hold it in place on the top of the steel structure, and 8" stakes that hold the bottom. Even with that, the wind was pulling out the stakes because the ground is loose, but it worked really well even if we had to re-stake the bottom often.

I think a very sturdy canopy would hold up, in fact that is what one group was using. I think my powder coated steel canopy would hold, but I'd have to really stake it down well.

You could opt for what we did on the Friday night dive. Gear up almost completely in the hotel, load up the car, in the water in 5 minutes or less, and then do the reverse when you get out. The wind makes the temp really drop. It would have been nice on Sunday had we not had the wind to deal with.

Love to, but I will be scootering in Monterey... Damn business trip:wink:

Doesn't look like I'll be going this weekend. It's too far for me to go for a couple of dives on one day. And, since I want to try out new equipment, I don't want to dive solo. It is supposed to be pretty nice Sunday; 50+ degress and about 10 mph winds. I think that is a lot better than what you guys experienced in Dec!

Ron, as time get closer, I'll let you know about the 3rd weekend in Feb. If that is the 16-17 (I think it is) that looks like it will work for me. I can take Friday off, and Monday is another Holiday. But I don't want to do the 23-24 since that is the weekend just prior to my departure to Bonaire, and I'll need that weekend to pack, and also, it doesn't give me much time to replace/repair anything, no really enough time to get things thawed, dried and packed for Friday departure.

Have fun Kevin and James, and let us know how much fun it was!

Oh sure.... turn down a trip to dive with good buddies at the infamous BH to go scooter diving in Monterey... We're not jealous at all. :)
