Gary, can ya'll get through the ICW to make it out of Pensacola Pass? It's likely gonna be hit and miss for a while until this mess is gone and we're looking to get some trips out if at all possible.

I don't speak for Gary or the other captains here..... but that's a long boat ride when you take in consideration that the average dive trip is 4 to 6 hours now. I'm guessing it's 15 to 20 miles from Perdido Pass to get out in Pensacola.

A more likely scenario would be relocating the boat over to P'cola to shorten the trip.

but then you're having to pay dockage at two places, for a lighter passenger load that isn't coming down because of what they see on TV.

And then they could run into the same oil situation there...

This just isn't a good situation for the charter boat captains who have boat payments, insurance payments, dock fees, etc during their "prime summer season" that tends to help pay the bills during the slow months.

just my opinion....

Doesn't make me real happy with BP and I'm know it's more stressful to them than any of us can imagine.

I've gone out PP with Gary, and come back through Pensacola and the IC. I didn't find the ride excessively long, and in some ways it's nicer, as you don't have seas to fight, and there are usually some sights to see. Probably depends on what locations you are diving though....

We were working on an alternative dock near Pensacola, but I heard today that the USCG won't even let them out of OB. We're still trying.

there is no way out except on the out going tide (is what I'm hearing)
I will and do run from here through Pensacola when they come up with a way out of OBA.

I talked to the Marine Police this morning and they said "Perdido Pass is Closed and will open to boat traffic ONLY on Out Going Tide."
We are not diving this weekend.
Things can and will change with time and we hope to be Diving The Gulf again real soon.
