the guy may be an idiot but the shop is ripping him off.... they shouldn't have moved forward with the course when he failed the first time... that or should have given him a chance to re-qualify again in say, after a month of practice, and just pay (maybe) $50 for the instructor's time to re-assess his treading skills.

IMHO, only a troll can swim 200 meters but be unable to stay afloat for 10 minutes.

there is actually a psychological factor in that... some people can do something successfully when the end is marked by a physical distance rather than time. i bet if he did some floating around rather than stay in one area, he would have done it.
