I used to get Scuba Diving like was said earlier good for awhile then gets quite repetitive same ads, resort ratings, etc. Looking for good alternative mag now.

Hello, new to diving and wanted to subscribe to a mag or two about diving. Anyone got some opinions?
Was looking for something that would have a combo of dive spot reviews, gear reviews, technical/instructional articles?

Dive Training is an excellent magazine and you might be able to get it for free each month by visiting your local dive shop.

Scuba Diving is also a very good magazine. I dropped my subscription to Sport Diver magazine. It spent more pages espousing the virtues of all the PADI 5 Star Gold Resorts than discussing diving topics. I found amazing that almost all the resorts wer 5 star resorts (yeah right).

DTM has gone nuts on environmental issues! You would think Al Gore owned it! Most is unsubstantiated hand wringing! They do a good job on training and dive industry stuff for new and seasoned divers, but gone tree hugging wacko on GW and Coral destruction! Most just is not true and out of earth first hand book! If you believe what they are selling then you should sell your gear because there would be no reason to dive in three years! It is truly sad when a political point of view is pushed in a dive mag!:no

Content wise I think SCUBA DIVING is the best for all round diving content. Sport Diver is quite useless because as the official PADI publication they tend to carry more advertising than content. Evn content that they put in looks like advertising. I am thinking of subscribing to a mag too and I think it wil be SCUBA DIVING.

DIVE TRAINING Magazine

Often it's free at your dive center

Rodale's Scuba Diving magazine is nice, but be warned: it is almost 100% advertisements, including "objective" articles. Gear reviews leave out major manufacturers, presumably because the manufacturers don't purchase advertising to be included in the "objective" gear review.

My subscription to Dive Training just ran out. I checked out every magazine listed in this forum and I think I'm going back to Dive Training.
