Could get much better vis than get in summer.. (something to do with less plankton and LESS DIVERS mucking up vis) If there are no storms or high winds for few days, can get really good vis. 50+ foot

Also, marine life is different.

My bud and I plan on diving in NYC on Saturday. (the 12th, almost paradise) Last weekend was blown out due to the snow storm (he bailed, not I...well, he has kids). We are not "macho divers" but we hope to continue our dives during the winter months. Anyone else that wants to attend our Far Rockaway dives please let me know. The A train is a good dive distination! Peace, DG

Yup, I catch atleast a few days every winter with 50'+ vis, it's really cool. I heard last year some guys caught perfect condtions and they were able to see the Poling from the surface.

Sound very cool.. Can you tell us more?? I do river diving here in Portsmouth (where there is an old locomotive) but I can't imagine what artifacts can be found in the rivers! What are restrictions, etc,. Probably only time can dive is now when less boat traffic.

What is/are Poling?

What is/are Poling?

The Chester Poling. A coastal freighter that broke up
during a storm. The stern "half" sits on its keel in about
100 FSW a short boat ride from shore in Gloucester, MA.
The bow half is a bit further out and turtled in about 200 FSW.

The stern half is a very popular dive site.
