No amount of pleasure or stress reliever, etc. is worth taking a risk with an unborn child. Not enough is known about diving in pregnancy. Why not ask DAN if they have any explanations? Very good thread.

Is it even possible to form any bubbles at less than 10 feet of depth for a short duration dive?

Hi uncfnp,

Given the physics of N2 on and offgassing, it is extremely unlikely that such could occur.

However, given inappropriate breath-holding it is possible to sustain pulmonary barotrauma from an ascent from 10'. If gas subsequently escapes from the lung as a result of tissue rupture, it can cause mediastinal or subcutaneous emphysema or pneumothorax. In severe cases, air will enter the bloodstream and travel through the heart as an arterial gas embolism (AGE). Once these air bubbles enter circulation, they can occlude arterial vessels, including those supplying the brain. Clearly this can be a serious threat to the pregnant diver herself & at least a theoretical risk to the fetus.

Cheers,

DocVikingo
