Hi

Just been offered a long term posting in Shanghai. Looked on the web and cannot find much or anything about diving there. This tells me that the diving must be rubbish. Has anyone any knowledge of the area and whether it will be worth taking the kit with me.

Definitely bring your kit if you're going to be there long term. You got all of Asia/ South Pacific at your doorstep to dive!!!

Yep -

I believe there’s a small expat dive community in shanghai, and you have some fantastic diving nearby in SE Asia which is only a short flight away: Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia: some of the best diving in the world.

Inside China there’s Lion City, a sunken city that’s dived on by Beijing-based Steve from Sinoscuba: he’s on the board and has a web site of the same name: a search here or on google should turn him up. I believe (don't quote me) that the lake is a couple of hours from shanghai (but it is cold and low vis: be warned). He may also be able to put you in contact with other shanghai-based divers.

Cheers,
Rohan.
