I have heard conflicting things about diving in the South of the D.R. near Juan Dolio, La Romana, Bayahibe etc..

I know they are near caves and caverns and would like to do some cavern diving (NACD Cavern Cert.) and maybe a cave course. Of course I would like to dive in the ocean also.

There is so much b.s. in Travel advertising that I'd like to hear opinions from people who have actually dove this area. Recommendations for hotels will be appreciated also.

Thanks,

Sy

I dove with Scuba Fun in Bahayhibe and was pleaseantly suprised by the ocean diving in the area, lots of juvenile fish and abundant micro marine life. I cannot comment on the cave diving as I am not certified or knowledgeable in that regard.

As for hotels I dont know your budget so its hard to say we stayed at a Wyndham nearby and it was nice and the staff was excellent

hope this helps

Don't know much about diving around Juan Dolio, but know a lot about diving around Bayahibe. There is a variety of dives you can do, great dive to St. George wreck, some people do 2 or 3 dives to see it all, last time we saw a big turtle swim by = of course beside other marine life. Caves are only 15 min from Bayahibe.
As for the hotels, depends what you prefer, all-inclusive or not, check this website » Your Dominican holiday starts here… to see closest accommodation around Bayahibe. If you have any questions, will be glad to help.
