November is still rainy season, but usually it rains after lunch time. the viz is pretty good most of the time and the manta season starts again. We offer trips to the Catalinas to enjoy these giants.
The beginning of November is usually slow but mid November the crowd starts coming and the rainy season runs to its end.
So all in all, not a bad time to come.

We'll be there (Playas del Coco) June 26-July 1 or 2.. What's the general water temp around the 1st of July? I'm trying to gauge what wetsuit to bring.

I found this on another thread..
"and importing scuba gear (legally) in to CR is expensive."

is this true?

Rox,

Yes, pura vida means pure life, more or less. It's a referral to the Costa Rican attitude and vibe.

As for bringing your own gear, we do discount for that. Our pricing reflects the fact that that we provide all the gear for the majority of our clients, and importing scuba gear (legally) in to CR is expensive.

Quepos and Manuel Antonio are really one in the same. If you are staying "up the hill" in MA you are no more than ten minutes from us, we are at the foot of the hill on the road to MA. In fact, transport from and back to your hotel (or breakfast or lunch location!) is included in the price of the diving.

If you need more info, or want to make a reservation, the best course of action is to contact Bob, Doris, Katharine or Georgia at info@oceansunlimitedcr.com. They'll be happy to assist you in any way they can.

We have been to CR twice with dive gear and have never had a problem.

Once again, to clarify, "importing" means bringing the equipment in the country to stay, like dive business owners have to with rental gear. If you bring gear in as a tourist, and intend to leave with it, you are not importing it.

I don't believe the aduanas (customs) folks at Liberia are any more lax than those at Juan Santamaria in San Jose are.

and the june/july water temps?

Where to stay in CR for the shortest boat rides to cat/bat isl. and good local diving?

The temp various all the time, but you should consider high 70's to low 80's
There are some thermoclines.
Teh best place to stay is Playas del Coco/ Hermosa;we are about 45 minutes away from the Catalinas and all the dive shops here can take you to the Bats. This is the only area where you can book trips to the Bat islands.

Happy Diving
