Hello out there!
Forgive me if this has been asked before, but, as a newbie in the world of spearfishing, I am seeing if I can get some advise from those that have gone before me!

It’s time to start buying my own gear, now that I have decided to take the whole scuba thing more seriously.

Got the knife. Got the torch. Next on the list is the pair of scuba fins. As with everything, there’s so many to choose from, but I like the idea of split fins – they just look so cool (sorry to be so superficial!)
Can anyone provide me with what they think is the best pair of spearfishing diving fins!?

Thanks!

:)

What, nobody?!

What about these scuba fins by Oceanic?

Not cheap, but they look real slick and that split fins design apparently means you have to kick less to move forward (putting it in very basic terms here...!)
Anybody using the Vipers or heard anything about them?
Are split fins cool or just a gimmick?
Thanks

Do a few searches on here and you are bound to find a lot of recommendations. From personal experience here are my favorites I have tried over the years in no particular order. I currently own all four of them...
Apollo Bio Fin Pro- picked up new pair on the bay recently for $100+ shipping. Great Split fins! Not gimmicky to me. They are fast but you do have to adjust your kick and get used to them.
Scubapro Jet fins (newer ones with lightning bolt)- Tried and true design. No gimmicks just a simple and powerful fin.
Mares Avanti Quattro - decent fin that is reasonably priced.
Cressi Gara 3000 free diving fins. Yes, they are free diving fins, I use these for spearfishing and can move through the water at a pretty steady pace.
Personally, I would look on the bay for some used fins, you can find some decent prices there and if you aren't happy with your purchase your not out a hefty chunk of change.

I am sure someone will chime in with their recommendations.

Give the Scubapro Seawing Novas a spin. They are light, fast and easy to kick.

Is this your size, medium? FS Apollo Bio size: MS; eBay

those work good for me. but I've had string from speafishing line get caught in the split fins too. That's the negative with these fins and being a spearo.

for more technical diving I really like Hollis F1 Bat fin (LP, Amzn).

the long free diving fins have a lot of power. I would consider them if your just spearfishing. (cf. Dan's post) (Riffe open heel - Amzn)

I recently switched from Oceanic Vipers to Mares Avanti Quattros. The vipers were just too floppy for me, and I can "kick and glide" in the quattros more effectively and feel like I have more control in the water with them.

I am sure you will hear from the duty experts fairly soon.

Try a lot of fins. Ask the instructors for their opinions.

You will, if you keep diving, own several pairs for different applications.

Glad you are out and about.

mares makes the best fins - quattro or superchannel are awesome. ive had mine for many years. full foot fins are what i use. they are better at transfering power than strap fins. then again, i only dive warm water so if you will be diving some colder water andneed booties then buy the ones with straps.
dont buy split fins!!! they suck! they are only good for short fast flutter kick by weak legged peeps! they are no good for frog kick(the most commonly used kick) and they are no good for changing direction. don't buy 'em!

How about DiveRite XT/EXP vs Hollis F1's vs Hollis F2's? Not to worries about weight for travelling etc just the performance aspects and something that won't give me cramps
