I said from the start this was a cave instructor advocating this approach in caves. And I also said that I agree with your position on OW diving from the start.

But if you don't have any cave experience and don't understand the procedures, then you shouldn't be saying "It would seem to me that if someone needs to breath down an Al 80 to 1000 psi to make it "more manageable" they should be reconsidering their use of stages." as a blanket statement. That's all I am trying to say.

More like 2 baskets as you are diving doubles. ;)

Not exactly. There are still 3 failure points on a isolated manifold that cannot be recovered from. And you are never guaranteed to save 1/2 of your gas when you isoldate during a L/R post failure. If you are diving sidemount then I would agree.

You are taking my quote out of the context to which it was intended.

Gas planning is not rocket science. Once we agree on some pretty general principles, the math is big rounded numbers..........Never had a ton of interest in caves but might have to do some cave training just to round out some missing knowledge. Or I could just ask a few questions on SB and stay in a holiday inn and get an on-line cave cert from some agency.............;)

Thanks for the information though. I will now get my nose out of cave diving and back in the open ocean where it belongs.........:D
