A couple of my friends are planning a dive this friday at Catalina, and we will probably just do the casino point dive park. I was wondering how the visibility should be for this dive, especially because of the rain that we got today and yesterday?

Is there anything of interest at the park that I should look for, or should I just browse around the sea floor?

I would like to bring a camera down if possbile, but I don't have the necessary equipment. Is there a place that I can rent a camera or camera case for the day, either on the island, or near by long beach?

Thanks for your replies.

I just got out of the water a couple hours ago, and visibility has actually improved since the rain. (i meen it was better after it rained than before) we had quite a bit of wind today so it was choppy at the surface but vis is a good 20+ and improving. water is warm, 64 at the surface. I saw a half dozen bat rays in the west side of the park in the sandy flat near the swim platform. there has also been a 6 foot giant black sea bass hanging around, I spent 30 minutes with him right at the cousteau plaque a couple days ago. the park almost never dissapoints me! happy diving!

And you should know, Tom!

Glad that vistasbelow is reporting on the conditions since I rarely go into the dive park these days. I miss the comraderie, but get to see a lot of different sites on the King Neptune. The dive boat is booked solid with waiting lists Sat and Sun so it may be a pretty busy time at the park this weekend.

Supposed to be some big swells showing up tomorrow and lasting thru Saturday. Can someone please let us know Thurs/Fri if they do roll in?

Thanks!

It sounds like it should be a good day for diving as long as the swell doesnt get too big.

I am happy to report that the dive park conditions are improved since yesterday. there was just a little chop at the surface and a slight surge but over all very nice. vis is up to about 30 in the middle to the east side of the park, still a little stirred up on the west side, probably from the bat rays digging in the sand. the harbor thermometer read 65.3 degrees today and it was 64 in the park at the surface. I left the dive park at 3:30 today, wednesday, and it was still awesome, I did not want to leave....
