Hi from Minnesota - Land of 10,000 lakes and a bunch of loons (mostly in State Government)

Just completed OW certification and have a total of 11 dives under my belt. Looking forward to diving where vis is better than 6 feet and temps below 18 feet are not suitable for cooling a six-pack.

congrats and welcome

I got certified last December at 59, in Cozumel. (Didn't plan to, just did the resort Discover Scuba session and enjoyed it.)

In Feb. I went to the Dominican Republic and did several dives, trying to get more comfortable.

In May, my son and I went to Bonaire (Cpt. Don's) for a week, did 17 dives and really enjoyed it. Actually, my son slowed me down....I would have done more dives.

In October I'm going on a trip with a local dive shop to Cozumel, again. I'm really looking forward to that, because it will be similar to Bonaire....a week dedicated to diving. (I also will have all new equipment from ScubaToys.com.) I'm confident I'll have another great time in Cozumel. One of my hopes, though, is to connect with another local diver with similar interests to take 5-6 dive trips per year.

I've since read some posts implying that we might be getting too old for diving. Kind of surprised me...I'm feeling like I can dive for at least another ten years. We'll see.

Hi
Got my OW in Feb. in Cozumel age 55 Wanted to do it forever!! back to Cozumel in June and returning for two weeks in Nov/08 I have been diving with Aqua Safari and very happy with the operation. Plan to dive as long as I can. I have met many divers in their 70's Might be a great question to post. Who is the oldest diver you have met?

Welcome to ScubaBoard from another 60-something diver. With a name like photobackpacker, you sound like my kind of guy. I always carry my backpack when I do international diving or other trips and I often stay for up to 3 months at a time. Good for you!

I guess I have to chime in. I am 58. 3 years ago, after thinking about it for more years than I can remember, i was on a cruise to Cozumel and they had a Discover Diving course. I loved it. No one in my family was interested, but I got myself certified and now have almost 30 dives and looking forward to many more.
