I just had my deviated septum fixed (again, first operation apparently accomplshed nothing). My physician is uncertain how long I should wait following surgery to dive. I know my nose is still a little tender and my sinus cavities pluged for the first 7-10 days. But once I feel like I am clear headed what is the general rule of thumb. 2 weeks? 4 weeks? My doctor originally said no diving for 2 weeks, but then the day of the surgery, before the operation, he waivered and started saying 4 weeks. What should be the guidance?

Hi Melvin,

In my opinion, the guidance would be to follow your surgeon's advice. Four weeks may be a bit conservative but is not an unreasonable period to wait following a procedure such as you underwent.

It'll be dive time before you know it.
