I've been wonder why divers who had DCS are not allowed
to dive for few weeks/months after the event. what are the long term side effects of the bends that prevent diving for such a long time ?

Dear G@diver:

This is best let as a question for the physicians, but they will need to know this information in advance.

How long the interval depends on whether there was only pain (the bends) or whether there was also neurological involvement.

In addition, on must provide information concerning the dive. Was this in association with a rapid ascent? Where you working hard on the bottom? Where you working on the surface? What were the gas loads (=approximate dive profile)?

As this is more of a medical question than one concerning the scientific aspects of decompression, I have taken the liberty of moving it here.

Best regards.
