now can we see the pictures?

Sure, as soon as it get them mounted. You shoot slides and they develop on the spot, but not mounted. I've got to sort out the keep from the toss, cut and mount and then scan on my buddies slide scanner. He's going to Boundary Waters canoeing in the next few days so it will be toward the end of the month before I post a few. I'll post here and in the Photography forum.

Thanks for your interest! We did take some pretty nifty shots.....and some not so nifty, but that's the learning process!

I own a time share in the states which I can trade for a week at Divi Cayman Brac. I am planning to do this as soon as I can work it out with my vacation days.

I haven't read anything in this tread to change my mind about doing this.

My dive club took a trip there and I've heard nothing but positive reports. I trust the opinions of the members of the club more than I trust Diver Lori's opinions.

Heck, it's a pre-paid week in a dive destination. What could possibly be bad about that?

Ravie....

I hope your experience is better than mine as well as the other large group we spoke with.

Maybe when you go the resort won't be double-booked!

*I* wish *you* well.

Lori, thanks for the report, and sorry you had such a frustrating week!
I have to add my two cents. I stayed at Divi two years ago and have nothing but the best to say about the place. Loved the staff, loved the boats, the food, etc. The fact that Max and Liz have both been there for so long is a testament to the place. How much staff turnover do you see at most of the other resorts?
It sounds like you had a really bad week there, that's unfortunate (and not your problem) they were so overbooked.
I understand your frustration, but I gotta say--I would go there again in a heartbeat. (but if I do, I will certainly check the bookings before I get on the plane!) :)

I won't be going to Divi Tiara-Cayman Brac. I demand service for my money while on my vacations.

Bay Reef Beach Resort (BRBR) on Cayman Brac is wonderful. Room was nice, food was great. Staff excellent. Dive op top-notch. Reef Divers goes out of there way to be helpful. Nitrox available too. We walked over to divi tiara, and it appears really run down and messy. Lots of trash. BRBR was one of the nicest dive vacations in memory.

Oh what the heck . . . One of my favorite LDS's is going to Divi in March so I dug up my log to check my notes on my stay there several years ago.

The fills were consistently generous and they allowed competent divers leeway in setting and managing their profiles. Laissez faire. On balance, it was a great week of diving. Only the somewhat seedy rooms dissappointed. Cliff's kitchen is great and every meal can be eaten under the stars or shade.

If the place ain't loaded to this gills, as it wasn't the week I was there, it can be pleasant. I seen some better, but more worse. Heck, I'll do it again, particulary if I can get with the right dive buddy to share a room. I know one who says she might . . .

Going to the Divi in off season does not seem to improve the service or the attitude of the dive crew. When I was there the resort was nearly empty. They only had one boat going a day and it was not full yet the dive crew were surly and definetly had an attitude. The place was run down and the overall service was marginal. I was staying in one of the "hotel" rooms. I was the only guest on the entire floor and they put me in the back overlooking the parking area. I asked if I could move up the to the front of the building so that I could at least see the ocean and they told me that was not possible. So I then asked if I could pay for an upgrade to one of the beach front rooms and was told that was impossible. Now mind you there were probably not more than 40 guests staying at the entire resort during my stay.
Not once during the entire trip did a DM get in the water with the guests, not an issue for me as a diver but I did think it odd.
One night at about 2am the smoke alarm in the room next to mine went off. It screamed for about an hour, all the time I was thinking that someone would surely come to find out if there was a fire. I finally called the front desk and was very rudely told that they would take care of it. An hour went buy, still no one came so I called again. It is rather difficult to sleep with all that racket going on next door. Finally some one came and turned it off.
all in all I would rate the Divi on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the best, about a 2.

I am set to go to Divi Tiara on Cayman Brac for Sept 13 - 20. It is too late to change plans now. Hopefully, there will not be any great hassles. The price is "fairly" reasonable, if and only if, they do not pack the boats and the accomodations are good. I will try to post a trip report, when I return.

I have not been to Cayman Brac as yet, so I am looking forward to the new sights. A poor operation (dive or resort) can certainly put a damper on the trip.

-HH  Who should we contact, if there is some problem ?

Max, Liz or someone else? Thanks
