I have decided to buy a Suunto Vyper and was planning on getting it from either Leisure Pro or Divetank. Does anyone have any experience with these companies? My understanding is that Leisure Pro matches any manufacturers warranty and Divetank is an authorized dealer of Suunto, so the manufacturers warranty will be in place. Other than that, I would love to hear people's opinions on both. Thanks in advance for your replies.

OH jezz another LP VS XYZ. If you reread your post I think you should be able to answer your own question. Which would you rather have a manufacturers warranty or LP's.
With that said I have dealt with both and would much rather give my money to Divetank.

I too would stay away from Leisure Pro on an item like this. I would want full manufacturers warranty standing behind the product. For example, a recall like Oceanic had. I am not sure how Leisure Pro would handle this. What if the recall occurred outside of the warranty? Would Leasure Pro cover this and eat the cost of all the computers they sold or would the consumer just be SOL?

You can buy cheap stuff at Leisurepro but for computers, BC, and regulator, I would stick to the local dive shop.

I've dealt with both places for different items. I find Divetank to be a much better retailer when you're looking for input as to what to use, or for more information on products. They're staff is helpful and knowledgeable with great communication. LP works well when you know what you want and aren't concerned with the warranty. If you can get them for the same price at either retailer, go for the manufacturer warranty.

Actually, I'm waiting on my Suunto D9 to arrive from divetank and the Mrs. is waiting for her new drysuit to show up. Recent dealings have demonstrated great customer service as always.

With that said, what would your thoughts be on buying a used computer from Divetank? The gentlemen I spoke with said they have a few computers that have only a few hours dived on them and were returned for various reasons. He told me that the manufacturers warranty begins from when I purchase the computer from them and they are very careful about making sure it is basically brand new still. After talking to him, I feel comfortable, plus the fact that they will knock off around $100.

Thoughts?

I bought my Vyper from LP. No problem. They also have their own warranty which is as long as Suunto's and I have heard better.

Go for it. That's how I got my D9. It's got about an hour on it. I haven't received it yet, but they're willing to stand behind the product and given their reputation I see no reason why they wouldn't. They have been in the business for a long time, and they're always helpful. Not to mention that you can save a good deal.

All of that being said, I bought my drysuit as a "rep's demo" that had an hour and a half on it...and you couldn't tell it was used when I got it. The seals were new and uncut, and the suit wasn't even dirty. They also pressure tested the suit while having new boots put on it (they needed the size changed). So I got "used" suit that was essentially new at a great price. And it still has the Bare lifetime gurantee on it. Not a bad deal. We ordered my fiance's suit new since they didn't have anything that fit her.

Divetank seems to have a solid relationship with their suppliers and can get things done to keep the customer happy. I can't think of any time that I've ever read a negative review of them. And in my dealings, I've been quite happy. Richard and his staff are a top notch operation.

If you're refering to the Atom 2.0 recall, I have first hand info. That recall was just a software upgrade that could be performed at any Oceanic dealer. Most shops were willing to do it no matter where you bought the computer because it didn't cost anything and it only took about 5 minutes. I trust either warrenty. LP wouldn't do all the business they do if they were shady about their warrenty. That being said, I would also rather give my money to divetank.

I just ordered a brand new drysuit from Divetank. I got the ds, free under garments, free hood, free p-valve, dry gloves, bag, hose, SHIPPED for about $300 under retail. And they changed the boots. This was not a clearance item or anything like that. Now I just have to wait for it to show up but my dealings with Richard so far have been fantastic! They also guarantee fit so if you get it and it doesn't work for you they will exchange for free.
