Apparently this happened a few hours ago. Still very sketchy for now, but I'll try to update when and if more details become available.

For those with the inclination to read the french language article, here is the link:

If I find anything in English, I will post it as well.

EDIT: Feel free to add any links if you find relevant stories...

Although details are still under review, it's very interesting to note the shallowness of the divers, and the fact that the diver was apparently experenced, yet overweight...

How sad...

The investigation will certainly reveal more details. You would think that dropping some weight, belt or integrated pocket would have made him surface quickly and safely at this depth... It's a reminder of not taking anything for granted..

Another board has it that he apprently had over 60 pounds negative including a 120pi3 steel tk. (weight bell of 57 pounds...)!!!

divinginn:
thats alot of weight

Oh yes, Cold water diving in Quebec: typically on a 7mm+ 7mm wet for medium build s/b in the 20 lbs range. with the 120pi3 steel tk, even lower...

I agree...

I am not by any stretch an 'experienced' diver, yet use 16lbs with a 5lb BP/W when I dive an Al80. I'm 6' and weigh 240 lbs (while not huge, it's not exactly small either)...

In 2 weeks, I'll be diving with steel LP131, and expect to take at least 6lbs off...

Curious to see if that 57lb weight belt is accurate... It sounds massive to me...

EDIT: Pehaps there was some fatigue from dragging all the gear and WEIGHTS to the dive site... Then gearing up and moving with that mass... That'll definitely take a toll on the body...
