This is too bad.
I was at Whitestar last week and they had a full-blown "simulated" dive accident (used one of our club's divers).
They had the rescue "airboat", firecrews, paramedics, and the life flight helicopter all working together.

Sad..

GIBSONBURG, Ohio (WUPW) - Crews in Sandusky County are investigating a drowning at the White Star Quarry in Gibsonburg.

The incident happened just before 5:00 Sunday evening. Rescue crews say a 52 year-old Canton, Ohio man was scuba diving with his friend when something happened to him under water and caused him to drown. The man's friend was able to make it out, and yell for help. However, by the time rescue crews arrived it was too late.

This is the second incident in less than a week. On Saturday the Putnam County Sheriff's office says a 64 year old diver also drowned.

Investigators say Robert Fisher, from Cincinnati, was found at the Gilboa Quarry around 11:00am on Saturday.

From there he was taken to St. Ritas Medical Center by Lifeflight where he was later pronounced dead.

Both the Putnam County Sheriff's office and the Allen County Coroners office are investigating that incident.

A scuba diver who died Sunday at White Star Park quarry has been identified as Leo Karatjas,

52, of Canton, Ohio.Steve Gruner, director of the Sandusky County Park District, said Mr. Karatjas was in 40 to 45 feet of water when he was pulled from the quarry by his dive partner. Mr. Gruner said Mr. Karatjas was an experienced diver who had been at White Star previously. He was using non-traditional breathing equipment that recycles air, although it is not known whether the equipment malfunctioned.

An autopsy was to be performed Monday by the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.

Mr. Gruner said the diver’s death was the third at White Star quarry in some 30 years....

I understand that Poseidon USA was holding a rebreather try/demo event at White Star this past weekend. I believe people were able to demo and tour the Poseidon MkVI Recreational Rebreather. Does anyone know if this unfortunate death was tied to this event?
