Yep, my Mustang didn't make it into this year. I was doing fine and someone turned out in front of me in Saginaw. The insurance company told me that poor horsey broke a leg and horsey was too old to do surgery on. (Translation for those that don't understand my humor is that they totalled the 'Stang.)

After talking to several buddies, I figured a way to finance a new vehicle that I wasn't planning to buy. Where do the buddies come in? With their encouragement, I went out shopping for a vehicle that will likely get me another 10-15 years and 200,000+ miles before requiring replacement instead of settling for a used station wagon like I was sorely tempted to do (hence save money to buy more dive gear). If I can the weekend off, it will be relatively brand-new at Meet and Greet. I am buying it brand new 2006 in early to mid April if all goes well. It is a small SUV and I will leave the rest for suprise.

To those that have helped me so far, thanks!!! You are great friends.

Sorry to hear about the car but glad you're still in one piece :D Hope you can get the weekend off for the meet-n-greet, we can compare new cars! (got mine in Nov.)

BTW, when are we getting a chance to order those cool jackets--huh? huh? :)

So you want to buy a Surely Ugly Vehicle? Get a cargo van. It will haul your dive gear and you'll have a warm place to change in. Not to mention get better gas mileage. Get one with a V8 and you can tow a boat!

I've got a decrepit AstroVan for diving. Its great. I've got permanent tank racks in the back and can sit on the rear bumper and slip a bcd and tank onto my back. I've got a sun shower for after diving. I've got a frame that extends from the roof from which I hang a curtain for changing. And, I've got big plastic buckets inside for washing gear. A truly great way to dive.

Love my aztec for diving. Take out the rear cargo(grocery) tray and I can stand and tie 3 tanks on each side. Two roller bags, two drysuit bags, weight can, tool box, two chairs and tent and still see out the back window! Take out right rear passenger seat and my fiance's wheelchair goes right in. Along with overnight bags for 3 people. And I haven't even tried the roof rack yet!

My Chevy HHR hauls all the gear my husband and I need to dive including the 10x10 shelter tent :) Still gets 25mpg loaded to the gills too!

Mini-Vans . . . your complete Diving/Driving Experience !!!

So I drive a mini-van, so what !!!!

I can get 4 divers, all of the gear and 3 tanks EACH into it and put my canoe on top!!!

Let's see ya do that with a small SUV . . .

But ya gotta have the canoe racks or the other guys make fun of ya . . . eyebrow

What I have in mind will be able to do that and get 28 mpg (expressway) loaded to the gills. Still, you are in the same approximate type of vehicle. It has seating for 5 although the manufacturer claims 7 (must be talking about 2 adults and 5 children then :) ).

I will have on demand 4WD (handy for those winter roads that I have to drive) and can tow a small to medium trailer with the towing package if I where to get that. It has a tow rating of 3500 pounds.

I think that most people will be pleasantly suprised.
