The Lonely Planet Indonesia guide says that there are some diveable Japanese aircraft off Pulau Bunaken, but I haven't been able to verify this. Elsewhere, I heard that there's a Japanese plane off the coast north of Manado, but again my searches haven't turned anything up.

Can anyone verify whether these (or any other WW II) aircraft exist in this area and, if so, where they are and what condition they're in?

Thanks in advance,

Richard.

In regard to Bunaken and Manado I have a few thousand dives in the area and only know of a few wrecks. One is a danish ship that is in Manado Bay. There are two more shipwrecks in the Lembeh strait.

There's an American B24 Liberator aircraft in good condition in the Togian islands, it ditched in the sea after engine failure while on a bombing mission from the Mollucas to Ujang Pandang on 3 May 1945. Tyres, machine guns, propellars all still in place. Viz at the site sometimes a bit murky though.

Thanks for all the input guys!

That Togian islands B-24 sounds unbelievably juicy, and I'll definitely ask around about the Lembeh Strait possibility.

Richard.
