Dive Valhalla Nuclear Missile Silo Nov. 15/16, 2008

Any word on whether this is a go?
How many are planning to dive with us?
I have me, my son, and my boss as definates...and two coworkers
as possibles...
Waiting to hear response from San Antonio Divers club...

I talked to the shop and we need at least 6 more divers signed up and paid by Nov. 1st.

Not sure I can convince my girlfriend that diving in a cold empty concrete hole in the ground would be fun. Sounds like a blast to me but might not be able to make it unless yall can help me with some good angles on convincing her.

On another note does anyone have a small or extra small BC they would let go of cheap so I can get my girlfriend to do some more diving? I have extra regs and tanks and she has everything else but the diving around here doesn't seem to excite her enough to want to spend much money on buying or renting a BC.

My son browsed their site and it said you need to be altitude certified to dive the silo.

There is no requirement to be "altitude certified" to dive the silo.

Yes, it is an altitude dive.

Tell your girl to come along so I won't be the only girl on the block! :girl: I sold my BC a long time ago for a backplate, so I can't help you there.

It's an interesting dive. The challenge is to stay warm (7 mm, hood, gloves, and more if you have it) and bring a good light (really, seriously a good light).

Even if she doesn't care for the diving part then maybe she would be interested in it as a get-away from the norm, a weekend in a cozy tent with her guy, and some social time drinking beers around a campfire with some fun people. I always have as much fun hanging aound the campfire as diving! Does she make jello shots, by any chance?

Well getting her into a BP/Wing would actually be preferable... Actually if I fixed my doubles wing and dove doubles she could use mine if I got another backplate.....

The thick wetsuit part is the part I don't think she would be thrilled about. She hates wearing a 3mil as is. As far as lights go I think my 24watt HMI would be sufficient. Hmm, now that I think of it what I really need is an excuse to shoot some video there.

This angle might work. Doubt she would be making any jello shots but I would most likely bring a bottle of whiskey.

Hey Jess I've got an al80 singles kit I can loan ya for a day or two. I'm a 'lil sketchy on pink fru-fru stuff ... all my gear is black ... but we can get that nice bp/w crack like addiction going on for her no problem. I think the equation is the more she dives the more you dive ... with or without her. Happy to help with that.

The Valhalla missile silo is cold, dark, and there is no shallow area to do checkouts or comfort-building exercises. Any person diving this site should be comfortable and familiar with their gear (including the exposure protection and required weight) and should have excellent buoyancy control.
This is no place to be trying out new gear.
