Asking for a friend who's at NMU and wants to learn to dive; the Munising and Marquette preserves would be ideal training water.*

Can anyone recommend -- or perhaps "un-recommend" via PM -- a recreational diving instructor and/or LDS in the Marquette/Munising area?

Agency is less important than quality instruction.

* And it would be a good excuse for me to head up above the bridge and help her build experience after she's certified...

Does NMU offer classes for diving? That might be a way.

I don't know about the shop in Munising, but I may find out more about them over Labor Day - I'm planning on heading up that way for the holiday weekedn, and try to get some dives in on the wrecks up by Munising.

I didn't think of that. She does carry a pretty heavy course load; I gather that she wants to certify during the summer. (I don't blame her; in Marquette I would too!) Still, it can't hurt to mention it -- I'll pass on the suggestion and see what she thinks.

At Wright State University, Scuba is a 2 credit pass/fail class offered all 3 quarters, but not during summertime. Not sure how NMU does its tuition fees (altho I should, my wife used to go there), but at WSU, a cours load of more than 10 hours to about 17 or 18 credit hours is all the same max rate. So, if she goes from 15 credit hours to 17, it might not change the tuition cost . . . .

I'm going to call Shipwreck Tours in Munising tomorrow, I'll see if they know of a dive shop - have to - they say equipment is available there for the shipwreck dives. So, got to be a dive shop in Munising either at or near Shipwreck Tours.
