A Tip:
Get a routine!
Make sure you do the same thing in the same order whether it be packing your gear in preparation for a days diving, suiting up, getting out of your gear or any other thing you do on a regular basis. If something stops you halfway thru a sequence, back up and start from the beginning.

I can´t begin to tell you how much trouble that will save you. Sounds to anal? Previous posters have done a pretty good job of explaining why but a routine (assuming it´s correct) will save you from forgetting to turn on air, closing the zipper on your drysuit or forgetting your weightbelt (things I can tell are bad from personal experience) to name just a few...
