The correct answer is, "none of the above."

The air volume will increase to 5/3 of the original volume.
Another way to say this is, "the air volume will increase by 2/3."
The answer, "the air volume will increase by 5/3" is not correct as this would result in a total volume of 1 + 5/3 or 8/3.

Incorrect or imprecise wording of math problems (and answers) is one of the reasons so many people have problems with them.

I guess I'm missing something...

Boyles Law: P1 x V1 = P2 x V2

5 atm x V1 = 3 atm x V2

so. 5 atm x V1 / 3 atm = V2

place some random value in for the first volume of the air, say 1 Liters

(5 atm x 1 liters)/ 3 atm = 1.6 L

that's 5/3 of whatever value the first volume is.

I agree with you Dale, I really wish PADI would have someone go through some of their quiz answers...although their exams are better than most others.
