What diving is "near" (an hour drive) to that area? Fresh water is fine.

Welcome to me back yard.
Bluestone Quarry is 20-30 miles east, just off HW-64.

Lake Rawlings Va is about 150 mile due north, just off I-85.

Fantasty Lake (aks Rolesville Quarry) is about 110 miles northeast.

A couple of these are more than an hr. IMO, Rawlings is worth the extra time.

Thanks. How deep is the Rolesville Quarry? I did not see it mentioned on the website, but perhaps I missed that information.

Rumors are it goes down to around 75 ft. I can vouch for 60.....once during AOW and only as long as the instructor made me stay. :) Most of the "attractions" are in 20 to 33 ft. At least in the summer there is a thermocline at around 50 ft that is colder than I care to go past wet so I rarely venture past 50 ft. I know a bunch of dry suit divers who dive it often so I suspect if you really want to know I can find out.

I'd like to know just from curiousity. All three of the sites sound interesting.

What about "High Rock Lake"? I see it on Mapquest. Also, Lake Norman is SW of Lexington but still seems a drivable distance.

Both lakes are a drivable distance. I don't have any feel for Norman's vis but we measure the vis of High Rock in "bricks per gallon". The water has the vis of a Yoohoo. Pretty much zero vis.

We have a quarry at Lake Norman. The vis there right now is good but the temps are cold. It is run by the NCPDRA, but you can visit with a member. The depth there is around 94' deepest. Some say they have found some holes deeper but I have not seen it. If it is on a weekend that you are here there will be no problem getting you in. During the week we could probably find you a member going. Give us a shout when you come to town. The web site for the PDRA is www.ncpdra.org
