What's up people, I am going to buy a BP/Wing system and found the one I want from Dive Rite. I was curious if people thing this is very expensive. Please remember that these prices are from a package. It seems a little high to me. Please Advise!!

Transplate Harness - $109
SS Backplate - $135
Trek / Rec Wings (not sure yet) - $280 / $300
STA w/ SS Cam buckles - $79
Transweight 36 system - FREE
Crotch Strap - FREE

Total: $603.00

I wanted to get the STA over the 2 tank straps because I could use the extra weight. I know a lot of people say to just get $20 webbing but the Transplate Harness looks a lot more comfortable. Although I have never worn either. Thanks for any advice.

You can get a complete Halcyon system with a real single tank wing for $505, and an Oxycheq one for $480. I don't know why you'd pay the extra for the DR, with an inferior wing..

The harness is not uncomfortable. It's simple, secure, and it works.

I never looked into the Halcyon and Oxycheq. Are they both pretty much the same? Any benefits to either? Thanks.

There is a *ton* of info here on the board.. just look in the BC forum or do a search.

Bottom line is that both are excellent. I have a Halcyon Pioneer and I love it. If I were buying now, I'd probably get the Oxycheq because it's a little bit less expensive - $480 vs $515.

No weight pockets included. Just wear a weight belt, or do what I did and pour a channel weight (http://jonnythan.com/channel_weight_2). You can also purchase a "heavy" STA. Lots of weighting options..

They seem pretty good to me...

that's a ton of money! I;d personally I'd be unhappy with your choices.

1. just get a plain webbing harness, its not uncomfortable at all.
2. the wing, just get a wing made for a single tank, not one that the maker says will work for both. Get like one of the oxycheq or halcyon single tank sings. I don't know what size tank you are using, but you wouldn't need anything over 36# of lift for a wing tank.
3. wear a weight belt

Shop around and you can get something for $500 or less.

Just so maybe we can help a littl emore, where are you diving, what kinda suit you wearing, and what size tank?

The Trek and Rec wings are designed for use with singles and doubles, meaning they're going to be poor at both. If you're diving singles, use a singles wing. They're also a horsehoe shape instead of a donut shape, which apparently isn't optimal with singles. They also have inflators that are way too long and have pull dumps.

Thanks Wendy for your suggestions, I dive dry in the NE with a PST 120 tank. I plan on doubling it up soon which is why I was looking at the Rec wing. Doesnt the weight belt get in the way of the lower strap in the harness? I always wondered that. I currently dive with a BC which has integrated weights. I really like not wearing a weight belt. But I guess w/ a STA and SS BP I wont have to wear as much. I think I dive 14 pounds right now w/ my 120 in a dry suit (fresh water).
