Met Mike of the US Army on pass from Ft. Bliss TX and his Dad, Mike and headed off to Laguna beach for some diving. Entered the water in 2-4 waves with no issues. Dropped down in about 20 feet and swam out. Surge was present and the water was murky with visibility being 5-10 feet. We hit a whiteout on the way back that reduced the vsibility to 2 feet or less. Swam due south from the West end of the beach out along the pinticles and back. Spotted 3 octopus, one in a small hole way back in the top of a rock. On the way back we hit strong current at about 25 feet (rip current?) but fought our way thourh it. Surfaced in 15 feet of water as partner was at 400 PSI and that current was a B*&h. Weights 16 lead+6 BP+2.5 Tank=24.5 total diving drysuit.
