Dive 2095 Friday 8-28-2020 Kings Beach Newport solo

A nice sunny day with a NNW wind, outgoing tide. Did a vintage dive, sans BCD, computer could have used a couple of more lbs of lead. Had 5'-8' vis the temp was comfortable and I think I got to 15' judging by my float line. The salps are in! Saw a few near the surface, lots of fish small and large mostly togs and black sea bass. BT 42min.

A salp or salpa is a barrel-shaped, planktic tunicate. It moves by contracting, thus pumping water through its gelatinous body, one of the most efficient examples of jet propulsion in the animal kingdom. The salp strains the pumped water through its internal feeding filters, feeding on phytoplankton.

The salps do wonders for visibility filter feeding. The down side is that you have to look through a mess of salps....
