Haven't seen anyone post on the RI dive conditions in a while so here it is. My buddy Matt and I did a drift dive around Fort Point in Jamestown and exited at Bull Point.

We had a max depth of 78 ft and it was very dark below about 50 ft. It was very rough yesterday so things were still stirred up. Vis was about 10 ft max, but most of the time it was more like 5 ft. RI has been getting hammered with rough seas almost every other day for the last couple of months so the vis really hasn't had much chance to clear out this winter.

The water temps are running much warmer than they were this time last winter. My computer read 41 degrees F, but on a dive I did at the same site this time last winter it was 35 degrees F. That extra 6 degrees definitely makes winter diving a bit less painful. :D

I also attached a couple of shots of the anemones on the wall I took today. One shot has a bit too much backscatter but I threw it in just to give you an idea how thick the anemones are at this site....

Looks like Eastern point state beach in Groton had good vis from the report of another poster. Wondering if things are still topsy turvy you might want to hook up for a quick dive there. They have a shollowish cove that is sheltered and a wall dive that borders the Thames river.

Just a suggestion.

Glad I'm not missing too much and you dives are going safely.

Take care

Chris

Ed (the previous poster you mentioned) almost talked me into joining him on Saturday but when I saw the weather forecast, it didn't look good enough to make it worth driving out to CT. I am sure I'll get out there eventually though.

I think my evil plan for this coming week is to try and hit Bass Rock Rd in Narragansett.

Hi Chris,

Well as you noticed I could not joined you today. You got great pictures there. I'm with you on the 6 extra degrees ....has been very pleasant to dive this winter. I still recall dibing with 34-35 temps this time last year !!!

Will it get warmer? I hope so !

Ed
